But no one told Liam how hard would it be to protect a mate that, apparently, had a death wish Welcome to the world of beasts ______ Liam smiled and kissed Danielle's cheeks when the female arrived at the private table of the VIP area of Fang, her mane of curls bobbing up and down as she sat at his side, the purse placed on their middle."Finally, I thought you had been caught up in a mating haze." he joked looking at his ex with warm brown eyes. The brunette rolled her eyes and did blush a little bit, a human wouldn't be able to notice it, but Liam wasn't human and neither was Danielle."Maybe I was" was her sheepish answer that made them both laugh. Liam was really happy for her, the breakup had been mutual, his own wolfish side understanding that a mate was a mate and although they had loved each other, that it didn't come as near the feelings that a mate could evoke. And Danielle just looked lovely, her skin softer, her hair shinier and silkier and a glint to her eyes that just made her look absolutely breath taking."Aww, are you keeping Jay that occupied? You know he has to work."The brunette rolled her eyes and gave another laugh; "Oh, he wants it as bad as I do." was her comment, a wink accompanying it.Liam couldn't help but smile, Jay was lucky that Danielle had agreed to mate with him, the female was a beautiful, sweet girl that had tried everything to make him her mate. As did him with her, but the chemistry had been lacking and neither had bonded well enough for them to turn into each other lifelong companions, they had remained together, neither wanting to end a relationship that made them so happy. But the end had finally came when Jay entered their lives, a young physician of twenty five, he had swept Danielle off her feet, giving her what Liam had never been capable of giving her, they had broken up not long after, as he wasn't the one to hold grudges or get in the way of mates.The media had been all over it, as they couldn't grasp why a three years long relationship had ended so abruptly, the tabloids accusing Danielle of cheating on him and calling her a shameless whore. He had stood up for her and done the right thing, telling the world that Jay and Danielle loved each other and that he and the brunette had been growing apart for a while now. The hate on his ex had diminished but not ended, but she could care less as Danielle now had her mate and was truly happy, and for her smell, who was corrupted by the others around the room, pregnant too."Isn't Jay going to get jealous?" Liam asked with a smirk, of course the male wouldn't as Danielle was completely mated to him, the brunette snorted and gestured for Amy, the waitress to bring her a beer while saying."Of course not, he trusts me", she paused, her brown eyes pausing on him with a solemn expression, he sighed, knowing what was coming next "I'm worried about you. You have reached maturity four years ago, Liam. You should have been mated by now, or at least found her".Liam thought about it as he took a sip of his glass of beer, indeed he should have mated a female by now, but he hadn't the chance to meet one that really caught his attention. Of course he had lots of female attention, being one fifth of One Direction, but none of the females he had met had made his beast stir, his dark side kept itself quiet, not even wanting to pipe in and make him do something unthinkable as it had for the first year after he reached maturity.A groan almost escaped his throat, the beast within him hadn't shut up for the first year, always on the back of his mind, telling him that he was a virile male and that he should bed females. Of course Liam knew that it was normal for someone after maturity heat to be constantly excited, to want to have sex with as many un-mated partners and possible, to see if it found its mate among them. But it just wasn't him, he wasn't the kind of male that would sleep around, and then he had met Danielle and they had clicked, but both soon found out they weren't each other’s mates and in the end, after much trying of both parts, they understood that never would be."I think I might be one of the Dark Ones" Liam said making Danielle gasp as though she was the one in pain, not him. The Dark Ones were werewolves that just like him had never found their mates, in the end, they were shunned by their underground society and formed a pack that welcomed all of those who didn't found a mate or that didn't want one "No, you can't. Oh, Liam" she was truly pained by the thought of him being one of the shunned pack members, her sadness like soft rain on his nose."If I can't find a mate in two years, yeah, I can" was his dry comment._______1D_______ Looking at herself on the mirror, Bárbara could barely recognize the woman staring at her. Her messy half curly half wavy hair was flowing down her back and almost to her hips straighten like it was supposed to be that straight, a feat she had never conquered before, her make up was done perfectly, her skin completely flawless, her eyes popping out because of the smoky eye shadow, mascara and eye liner. Her lips plump and inviting thanks to the lip gloss smeared over the pale pink expanse, a snug black dress hugged her body more than she wanted, showing the curve of her breasts, before dipping down and framing her stomach and half of her thighs "Note to self: DO NOT BEND". The black stiletto pumps she was wearing added almost ten inches to her frame, making her once precarious equilibrium even more hazardous.Lily had out done herself this time, making her into something desirable and perfect "You look beautiful!" her blond friend said with a big smile, hugging her and sighing "Thank you so much for doing this for me!".Her brown eyes met her aqua ones and Bárbara couldn't help but smile even though it was the last thing she wanted to do right now, as Lily was currently undergoing the worst part of her cycle (aka ‘that time of the month') her cramps were preventing her from meeting with a guy, in some uptown club. She had said that it was a simple business meeting as the blond dealt with relationship issues and it was common for her to just go to a bar and meet with a client/clients.Taking a deep breath, Bárbara took a step forward and smiled when the shoes didn't impair her walking that much. Lily smiled "Ok, his name is Markus and you just have to talk to him for a while, now what he wants of a mate" the brunette frowned, odd choice of words "Keep in mind to let the conversation flow, don't ask too personal questions"."Li, I expect to make it as short as possible" brown eyes glared up at her, well, a little up as Lily was about 5'10 and they were about the same height now as Bárbara was between 5'2, 5'3. "No" it was an adamant no as that, and aqua eyes widened in confusion, the blond understanding her faux pax covered it quickly "He's a rich guy, a really important client. Please, take your time with him".Feeling like she was walking to her own demise, Bárbara nodded and hugged Lily before walking out the door.________1D________ Liam tensed when he saw Markus' men lead a human female to the back of the club, her retreating figure followed by the club clientele's eyes. A human didn't know about Fang, as it was a werewolves only kind of club, the small club hidden from view as its main entry was on a dark alley. If she was there, it could only meant that she had been lead to it, but why? The werewolf community was a closed one, centuries of senseless killing and hunting taking its toll, they had retreated to the undergrounds of human society, learned to control their transformations to never more be set off by the full moon, and now walked among humans, living their lives like they were one of them.Most preoccupying than the fact that there was a human on an only werewolves club, was the fact that she was going to meet Markus. Danielle let out a silent gasp and looked at him worried "He's going to make minced meat out of her!" Liam agreed with a nod of his head, his half brother was known from not tolerating humans, he passed his days and nights on Fang, not even bothering to get a job, not that he needed one. "Are you going to let it happen?" the brunette bit her lip and looked at him with a frown, making him shake his head, no he wouldn't let it happen. Markus was a sadistic bastard that wouldn't be satisfied by only tearing her apart, torture was on store for the brunette.Getting up, Liam turned to Danielle "Stay here".__________1D__________ Bárbara cleaned her slick hands on her dress, the man in front of her was one of the most handsome she had ever seen, his slick black hair, brown eyes, aquiline nose, square jaw and almost Greek godly body hidden by an Italian suit. Markus Payne was an intimidating man and she wasn't one to feel secure around intimidating men, the brunette bit her lip in nervousness as his gaze slid across her seated body, his brown eyes twinkling with appreciation and amusement.The two goons that had brought her here stood behind the black leather couch, much like two securities would and she wondered why he felt the need for them. Was he a drug dealer? A pimp? Or a simple paranoid multimillionaire?"So, Bárbara, how old are you?" Bárbara frowned, wasn't she the one supposed to be asking the questions? But his voice was quite nice, it had this husky tilt to it that was lovely and sexy, but it made her uncomfortable "I'm twenty" she answered before smiling and getting on with his interview for the dating service Lily ran. Why did a man like him need to resort to such drastic measures? Taking a deep breath, she peaked at the notes her friend and room mate had given her before asking "Mr.Payne, what are you looking in a..." Bárbara trailed off when for the second time that night the word mate appeared instead of woman or girlfriend, PMS must have been hitting Lily quite hard "Woman" she completed.His pearly white teeth were showcased in a breathtaking smile, the brunette stared at him with an eyebrow raised, he was acting like he knew woman wasn't the word written on the notepad "I like them shy, but with a fire inside that is only reveled to me" the words on the bed were left unsaid, her bottom lip was once again caught by her teeth as he kept talking, his voice mesmerizing "Smart too. I like them smaller than me" which wouldn't be hard, he was what? 5'10, 6'? "Do you have a boyfriend?" he suddenly asked."Mr.Payne, we are here to talk about you, not me" Bárbara changed matters swiftly and politely, his brown eyes filled with amusement "Please, continue your description", his lips shifted into a smirk and he slightly leaned forward, leveling their eyes so that he was looking straight at her. A tap tap tap sound could be heard and it took a while for the brunette to understand that it was her the culprit behind the irritating noise, the heel of her left stiletto hitting the floor. Bárbara forcefully stopped herself, for some unknown reason, showing nervousness in front of the man that was staring at her so attentively was something that she didn't want to do."I like them pretty, but not too much. I found out that really beautiful girls are usually complete bitches" Bárbara had to agree with him, beautiful girl usually found themselves too confident of their success and happened to adopt the horrid habit of treating others like they were trash. "I don't want them too thin, bearing children has to be difficult for them" his nose twitches and the brunette almost laughs, but professionalism and the need to get out of the room she found herself in didn't let her. Scribbling down the last bit of information he has given her, she smiles and gets up "That is all that is needed, I am going to forward this information to Lily and she will see if she has a match, if she does, you will be contacted"."Sit" it's an order and Bárbara widens her aqua eyes while her legs give out on their own accord, obeying the man who is staring at her like she is good enough to eat "We aren't near done, sweety" his voice is too sweet and fake for her ears and the brunette finds herself more nervous than ever, the hairs on the back of her neck standing straight. "Boyfriend?".This time she answered with a shake of her head, not even giving it a second thought, her instincts starting to take over as her fear increases. Bárbara didn't have a clue what he wanted of her, or why he seemed interested in her private life.A loud crash was heard near them, just on the other side of the door, before the piece of wood is open and another man enters, his eyes paused on hers and when he noticed the fear in her aqua orbs, he glared at the man in front of her. The brunette was wary of this other man, although he seemed familiar, she didn't know what he wanted and she didn't like how her body came to life the moment he entered the room."Brother" Markus drawled lazily, Bárbara knew that there was an underlying threat beneath the silky tone "Let the human go, Markus" the strained voice of the other man told her that he also knew about the threat, and why was he calling her human? Wasn't he one too? Just her luck that she had to encounter two weird guys in one night, it was a record for her."I don't have to do such thing" the one in front of her said, making her raise an eyebrow, she would go along with weird names if she could get out of the bar "I was just leaving anyways" Bárbara commented, getting up quickly while putting the notebook and pen on her bag. Two pairs of brown eyes stopped on her, the brunette smiled and started to walk calmly to the door, even tough all she wanted to do was run out of the room. Markus' voice stopped her again "I told you that we weren't done" she tensed and looked at him without fully turning "But I already have enough information for your profile"."Get back into that chair" his voice was hard and he gestured to the chair she had been sitting with finality and the arrogance of a man that had people agree with him without him uttering a single word. Tough luck she wasn't like that, but her body apparently had a mind of its own as her legs started to make their way to it, better, they would if Bárbara hadn't been stopped by the other man, "Don't." his voice was warm and he brought her closer to him with gentleness. "Leave her alone, we don't mess with humans" his next words were to Markus who had suddenly gotten up and was... God, was he baring his teeth and growling?"She's mine" Markus growled, his stance widening. The other man put himself in front of her, separating Bárbara from the growling man (?), which she was glad and not at the same time, the brunette hated to feel like she was powerless. But she could make an exception on this case as the raven haired whatever he was canines grew, actually, all of his teeth started resembling dogs' teeth, but a lot bigger and sharp and scary looking.Okay, she had to be dreaming. Yeah, it was all a fucking big nightmare and she would wake up and laugh of her stupid hyperactive mind. "The hell she is. It's impossible she is your mate" the light brown haired man growled, there was that word again. What was with people that they had to go around and say the word mate? "The last human mate known was five centuries ago"."And? Even if she isn't, I can have fun with her" Markus smirk sent chills down her spine and Bárbara didn't care that she had heels, she ran, leaving the room the fastest she could with the damn stilletos. The brunette heard a growl behind her and she could feel the eyes of the other costumers on her, but she didn't stop, well, at least she didn't until she arrived at the front door where she remembered that she had taken a cab until the club. Her throat contracted and she looked around, how would she get out of this mess now? When she managed to get home, Lily was going to get her ass kicked.Her upper arm was grabbed and Bárbara was pushed by someone, she didn't know if she should be relieved that it was the other man, but she was. "Come on, Markus will arrive in seconds" he told her, making her run with him, well, as fast as she could with those fucking heels and her short legs. Lucky for her, his car was near, a white Mercedez, he opened the door for her before getting on the car himself, she was closing the door and he was already inside. Bárbara decided not to delve into the fact that it was impossible for it to happen normally unless he was the fucking Flash.The man started the car and drove off right on time, as Markus left the club, a growl leaving his mouth, which resembled more a dog's than a human's. The brunette let herself fall against the car seat, and it was only then that she got a full look of the other person in the car. Her mouth opened in shock, the man that had probably saved her life was Liam Payne. | |
